PRP Microneedling
PRP Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that combines PRP (platelet rich plasma therapy) with skin microneedling. It is used to rejuvenate the skin, improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars.
Sun & Skin Medical Centre offers PRP Microneedling in Mount Eliza, at our Nepean Highway clinic.
PRP Microneedling is a two-step procedure. It involves collecting some blood from the patient and centrifuging it down, to separate the red blood cells and other components from the platelet rich plasma. The plasma is then applied to the skin during the microneedling procedure.
Microneedling is carried out using a device with very small, fine needles, to puncture the skin. These tiny punctures stimulate the skin’s natural healing processes, promoting the growth of new collagen and elastin fibres.
PRP Microneedling can be used to address a number of different skin concerns, including wrinkles and ageing, acne scarring, uneven skin texture, and more. The addition of PRP (platelet rich plasma) to the skin alongside the microneedling, may make the procedure more effective.
Whilst the microneedling triggers the body’s natural healing processes, it also allows for the deep penetration of proteins, growth factors and cytokines in the platelet rich plasma that is applied. This accelerates tissue repair, enhancing the procedure.
PRP Microneedling may be beneficial for people with the following skin concerns:
The addition of PRP to microneedling can accelerate the healing process, stimulating faster skin renewal, and making the procedure more effective than just microneedling alone.
The number of PRP Microneedling that each person will require will vary, depending on a number of individual patient factors. Most people will require a few sessions to see visible results.
Larger scars or burns typically take longer to respond to treatment. Similarly, for patients who are having PRP Microneedling for anti-ageing, they will generally require ongoing, periodic treatment in order to maintain their results.
Your skin therapist will be able to assess the condition of your skin and advise you on how many treatments of PRP Microneedling may be required to achieve your desired results.
It is important to remember that it may take some weeks for you to notice the effects of your PRP Microneedling treatment. This is because the body takes time to produce collagen.
Most people tolerate PRP Microneedling well, and there is minimal downtime involved.
PRP Microneedling does not usually cause much visible bleeding at all, contrary to what many people are lead to believe; due to the superfine nature of the needles, the skin is clean and appears intact at the completion of the treatment.
It is quite common for patients to experience some mild redness, and possibly some very mild swelling of the skin for 24-48 hours following their PRP Microneedling treatment. Occasionally, there may be some bruising in delicate areas, or in areas where a stronger treatment has been required.
It is recommended that you avoid touching treated areas after having PRP Microneedling. You may apply mineral powder the following day. It is recommended that you avoid skin products or makeup on the day of treatment.
Your skin therapist will be able to make specific recommendations and provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions following your PRP microneedling treatment.
Regular treatments as recommended, along with the daily use of the suggested skin care products will allow for long term correction and maintenance of the skin.
